1st Place First Annual Project Based Learning Summer Cup
PBL Summer Cup is a city-wide competition held by Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC). There were 25 camps that participated and our program took home the 1st place, earning the summer cup trophy. Students from OST programs throughout Philadelphia presented projects to a panel of judges, perform for one another, and compete for recognition. Part science fair and part talent show, the PBL Summer Cup featured a variety of project topics. As the winner of the 2011 competition, Cambodian Association of Greater Philadelphia, South Center, used the Summer Olympics as a vehicle to study the cultures of countries around the world. The students prepared a tri-fold board with information they learned while completing the project, and also presented traditional dances from Cambodia.
Winner: Nutritional Development Services Summer Meals Program Social Media Photo Contest 2013
We are pleased to announce our camp won the 2013 Nutritional Development Services Summer Meals Program Social Media Photo Contest. Our entry won in the category of the most creative recycling of NDS summer meals boxes. The campers work very hard on a beautiful mural in our South Center classroom. Over the 6 weeks at camp they painted an imaginative underwater scene. In collaboration with this project the children were able to recreate their own underwater diorama using the summer meals boxes. This enabled them to take home their very own mini recreation of the mural. We received a $50 gift card that we will use towards the purchase of program supplies.
